Springfield, MA— Junior Achievement of Western Massachusetts announced today that it received a $10,000 grant from Santander Bank to bring financial literacy programs to over 200 students in Greater Springfield, Massachusetts. The programs will teach students concepts related to budgeting, saving, and money management with the intent of promoting the development of good financial habits. The partnership includes the involvement of volunteers from Santander Bank to help deliver the programs to students.

“Giving young people an understanding of how to work with money responsibly is a top priority for Junior Achievement because it’s not just important to the well-being of the individual, but to their families and our community as a whole,” said Jennifer A. Connolly, President of JA of Western Massachusetts. “We’re thankful to Santander Bank for providing the resources necessary for this partnership to help our young people grow up to be successful adults.”

The grant is part of a national partnership between Junior Achievement and Santander. In all, ten areas are participating in this effort: JA of Delaware; JA of New Jersey; JA of New York; JA of Northern New England (Boston Area); JA of Rhode Island; JA of Southern Massachusetts (New Bedford Area); JA of Southeastern Pennsylvania (Philadelphia Area); JA of South Central Pennsylvania (York Area); JA of Southwest New England (Hartford Area); and JA of Western Massachusetts (Springfield Area).

“When students learn how to manage money, they are better positioned to succeed in our global economy,” said Sarah Lindstrom-Region President South and West New England.
“Our financial literacy program aligns with Junior Achievement’s mission and teaches money management skills that will help participants make sound financial decisions throughout their lives. We are pleased to work with Junior Achievement to deliver financial literacy programs to students throughout our footprint.”
